Tender but Useful medicines
As the Indian Ancient history states that the medicinal plants had a very good impact and a very good role in the life of Rishi muni and the Vaids. So as my garden is well developed so my father and me have grown some medicinal plants which are as follows:
DUM VEL
Uses : Used in Ayurveda. Intake of any part of the plant causes fatal poisoning; when drunk the juice produces nausea, vomiting. Roots stimulant, emetic, expectorant, potentially antitumor, stomachic, diaphoretic, antispasmodic, used for the treatment of asthma, bronchitis, whooping cough, dysentery, diarrhea. Leaves emetic, diaphoretic, chewed for asthma; leaf decoction taken for body pain. Roots and leaves used in hydrophobia.
CITRONELLA
About : True citronella plants, Cymbopogon nardus or Cymbopogon
winterianus, are grasses. If you are purchasing a “citronella plant” that has
lacy foliage instead of grass blades, it is probably a citronella scented
geranium, which is often sold as mosquito repelling plants but actually
ineffective at repelling these insects. In Indonesia, it is also grown
as a popular food spiceUses : relieving migraines, tension, and depression
fever reducer muscle relaxer or antispasmodic anti-bacterial, anti-microbial,
anti-inflammatory, and anti-fungal oil from the plant is used in many cleaning
products.
LEMONGRASS
About : Cymbopogon, also known as lemongrass, barbed wire grass, silky heads, Cochin grass, Malabar grass, oily heads or fever grass, is a genus of Asian, African, Australian, and tropical island plants in the grass family. Some species (particularly Cymbopogon citratus) are commonly cultivated as culinary and medicinal herbs because of their scent, resembling that of lemons (Citrus limon)., the hairy spikelets project from boat-shaped spathes.
Uses : In India, C. citratus is
used both as a medical herb and in perfumes. C. citratus is
consumed as a tea for anxiety in Brazilian folk medicine, but a study in
humans found no effect. The tea caused a recurrence of contact
dermatitis in one case. In the Caribbean, the tea is also brewed and
consumed to boost immunity.
One
study found the tea may exert an erythropoiesis boosting effect.
In Hoodoo,
lemongrass is the primary ingredient of van van oil, one of the most
popular oils used in conjure. Lemongrass is used in this preparation
and on its own in hoodoo to protect against evil, spiritually clean a house,
and to bring good luck in love affairs.
The difference between Citronella and Lemongrass
Though citronella grass may sometimes be
called lemongrass, they are two different plants. Lemongrass and citronella
grass are closely related and can look and smell very similar. However,
citronella grass has reddish colored pseudostems, while lemongrass is all
green. The oils can be used similarly, though they are not exactly the same.
GINGER
About : Ginger (Zingiber officinale) is a flowering plant whose rhizome, ginger root or ginger, is widely used as a spice and a folk medicine. It is a herbaceous perennial which
grows annual pseudostems (false stems made of the rolled bases of leaves) about
one meter tall bearing narrow leaf blades. The inflorescences bear flowers having pale yellow petals with purple
edges, and arise directly from the rhizome on separate shoots.
Uses : Ginger is commonly used for many types of nausea and
vomiting. It's also used for menstrual cramps, osteoarthritis, diabetes,
migraine headaches, and other conditions, but there is no good scientific
evidence to support many of these uses.
In foods and beverages, ginger is used as a flavoring agent.
In manufacturing, ginger is used as for fragrance in soaps
and cosmetics.
NONI
About and Uses : Noni is a small evergreen tree in the Pacific Islands, Southeast Asia,
Australia, and India that often grows among lava flows. Historically, noni was
used to make a red or yellow dye for clothing. It was also used as medicine,
usually applied to the skin.
Today, noni fruit, leaves, flowers, stems, bark, and roots
are still used to make medicine for a long list of ailments. However, the
effectiveness of noni for these uses has not been proven. The FDA has issued
multiple warnings to noni manufacturers about health claims that aren't
supported by research.
People take noni by mouth or drink the fruit juice
to prevent cancer, prevent
infections, treat high blood pressure, and many other conditions, but there is no good scientific evidence to
support these uses.
The leaves have been used for arthritis, headache or skin problems by applying the leaves to the affected area.
Spearmint is used for digestive disorders
including gas, indigestion, nausea, diarrhea, upper gastrointestinal tract spasms, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), bile duct and gallbladder swelling (inflammation), and gallstones.
It is also used for sore throat,
colds, headaches, toothaches, cramps, cancer and inflammation of respiratory tract.
Some people use it as a stimulant, germ-killer, local pain-killer, and
anti-spasm medication.
