Plasma Donation
*What is plasma?*
Plasma is a fluid which remains in the blood after all the cells have been removed. Blood contains 55% plasma. Plasma contains water, salts, enzymes, antibodies and proteins.
Plasma is made up of 90% water and is essential for keeping blood cells in the form of fluid. Plasma nourishes all the organs of the body.
*What is Convalescent Plasma?*
A person who recovers from covid or Corona Virus Disease has antibodies to the corona virus in their body produced by the immune system. These antibodies are in the plasma. The plasma of a person who has recovered from covid which contains antibodies is called convalescent plasma.
Plasma of the recovered person containing Antibodies is given to a seriously ill person suffering from Corona Virus Disease. The Convalescent Plasma helps him to recover quickly.
*Who can donate plasma?*
1. Over 18 years of age
2. Weight over 55 kg
3. More than 15% hemoglobin
4. More than 7% of total protein
5. Those who have recovered from Corona 28 days back or those who have tested negative for Corona Virus twice 14 days back (ICMR guidelines).
*Who can't donate plasma?*
Women who have been pregnant before.
Person who doesn't fit into the above criteria.
*How much plasma is taken in one sitting and when can it be donated again?*
500 ml Plasma is taken in one sitting. Plasma can be donated again after 14 days (ICMR guidelines).
Each time during Plasma Donation, blood test is done in which proteins, hemoglobin etc. are checked. As soon as everything seems normal, the donation process is carried out.
*What are the side effects of Plasma Donate?*
Plasma donation does not cause any side effects on the body. The amount of plasma donated is replenished within 2 days.
During Plasma Donation, the plasma or blood of any donor does not mix with the blood or plasma of another person, so there is no chance of contracting infection.
This process is done by an automatic machine using a new disposable kit for each donor.
*I am a homeopathic physician and I have had corona in the month of May. And I have recovered and I have had the opportunity to donate plasma 2 times.*
*And it's a matter of pride for the family members of Saiyedna Saheb that 4 members of our family have donated Plasma in 3 days at different centers.*
So this is some basic and most important information which is related to plasma donation. Now in India the recovery rate of patients have increased but many of yhe patients refuse to donate plasma as they have a phobic thinking about this donation. So I personally request all the recovered patients to donate plasma with reference to above given information. I have also donated plasma.
